At home with Capri Blue

If you come to my house, the one thing you will notice is that every single table will almost always have at least 1 candle! My roommate often thinks I’m crazy if tables have more than one candle on them. But I think it’s totally okay, don’t you? Here’s a look at home with Capri Blue.

Though I have many candles brand that i love, Capri Blue has always been one of my go-to brands for candles and diffusers. I usually get them at Nordstrom, Anthropologie and Amazon as of late. And, I can’t help myself to buy at least one when I come across them. Trust me, my roommate thinks I have candle problems. I will find a place for a candle if a table already has one sitting there.

Due to the luxury of working from home a few days of the week, I often find that candles burning while I work make for a much better day! I find myself moving around my house to work, sometimes I work on the kitchen counter, other times I am sitting in the living room with TV in the background but almost always do I have a Capri Blue candle burning in the background. There’s just something about a candle burning that puts you in the right mood, and sometimes gives you a sense of clarity (at least it does for me).

Capri Blue fragrances are unique yet vibrant in their own way. I recently rented a home in Denver and knew upon entering that there was a Capri Blue candle or diffuser in the home. Surely enough, there was a volcano diffuser sitting in the living room and knew it was time to get Capri Blue back in my home. One of my favorite fragrances is VolcanoIt smells like tropical fruits and sugarered citrus. Second to Volcano, I love Aloha-Orchid and the smell is more subtle with flowers like gardenia, orchid and jasmine. I love burning this candle in the evening right before I go to bed.

Capri Blue candles and products are subtle yet strong enough to provide my home with the perfect ambiance for me time or when I have company. Often times, I find myself buying candles contingent of the season, but with Capri Blue, I find that they compliment any season. Not only do they smell incredible, but they are so decorative that I find they add a special touch to my home! P.S. my favorite is the watercolor collection specifically aloha orchid and modern mint

Be sure to check out their website for soaps, lotions, room sprays and more! There are so many products worth getting! If you’re looking for a gift for a friend or even for yourself, I highly recommend gifting Capri Blue. It’s the perfect staple to any home and what better gift than a candle.

Thank you to Capri Blue for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and completely my own.

Glamorous Sweater | Denim

If anything has changed since I got a puppy, it would be that my life is more balanced, there is consistency and more importantly I have a huge responsibility. I hesitated on the idea of getting a puppy for nine months, no joke, I researched, I went back and forth and I really asked myself if this was what I wanted. Growing up, I never had a dog. We grew up with cats and as you know cats are low maintenance and they don’t need nearly quite as much attention as a dog, especially a puppy. When I call my mom (often) and tell her about incidents I have with Mia, she chuckles and always tells me how it vaguely reminds her of an experience she had with either me or my brother (of course, in relevance). All that to say, a puppy can nearly be as much as a handful as a small child.

I was at a point in my life where I had lost the one person that meant everything to me. Life has a way of throwing curve balls at you, and this was just one of them. I found myself sad, the saddest I had been in a very long time. I had little to no motivation and I avoided talks with my family because I knew it would make me more sad. Instead, I started to go out with my friends frequently. I found that I was going out Friday night, Saturday day and into the evening and then Sunday was left to recuperating. I needed a change, I needed balance in my life and that’s when I revisited the idea of a puppy.

Life with Mia has been incredible. I definitely couldn’t imagine that I could love a puppy quite as much as I do, which makes me think about how much I will be able to love my child (one day). I can’t say that she fills that void in my heart, but I’ve found happiness with her, I’ve gained stability and she offers a balance of being a responsible parent and being the free spirited soul of someone in their mid-20s. With her, I balance happiness in things that I love: working, blogging, health and fitness and spending time with my family and friends.

Mia will be four months tomorrow! I can’t quite believe that I’ve had her for just about 2 months now. The poor girl is teething quite badly, she lost her front four teeth just a couple days ago. She adores small children, which is so cool (I think). She tends to get really excited when she visits my parents, and tends to pee herself. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not?! We start puppy classes on Sunday and I can’t quite be more excited for her to start socializing with other dogs (and being better trained)!

P.S. If there is one candle you need this fall/winter, it’s this one here. It brings that winter lodge feel right to your home. I’m obsessed!

If you have any advice regarding Mia, would love to hear them!

At home with The Swatch Box

At home with The Swatch Box

No matter how big or small your apartment or your home is, we tend to recycle our home goods for the new season or trend or sometimes just because you see something you must have in your home. We do the same thing with our clothing so why not give it a try for your home! This is perfect for the single gal, or guy or the couple who just doesn’t have the time to decorate.

If there is one thing I tend to buy a few (if not more) of are…throws. I love having throws in different colors for different seasons and different purposes! The Swatch Box just knew I couldn’t resist a couple more throws and not to mention they are just so soft and cozy. Other things in my Swatch Box, I was sent a picture frame, shatter proof glasses (perfect for outdoors) , shatter proof whiskey glasses (for your hunnies), blue decorative pillows, mirrored tray, bottle opener, vase and some bedding and lastly a sham. I love my bedding but I do always enjoy having a second bedding when it comes time to do laundry I can simply slip my second bedding on the bed. I have linked some of the things in my box below, but to get the full look sign up to get your very own at home with the Swatch Box experience.

To begin, take a style survey and then you are matched with a stylist who works to understand your tastes and your aesthetic preferences I sent my stylist photos of my apartment so she was able to have a better idea of the current aesthetic of the unit I am living in and the decor that I like. Sometimes a survey isn’t enough so your stylist is there to work with you and make sure they understand what you like. Then, each quarter, a carefully handpicked selection of six to twelve pieces arrive in the mail (why not gift yourself a package!). Here’s the best part…you can keep the items you want and return the ones you don’t want, free of charge. We tend to spend our money first on clothing and forget about our homes. With The Swatch Box, they make sure the home doesn’t get left behind. Need help decorating your home? your office? your vacation home? Sign up today here.

lauren conrad’s apple pie…

I was looking at my instagram yesterday afternoon, and came across Lauren Conrad’s page of this amazing apple pie. I decided to opt out of going out and make this apple pie instead. Despite slicing finger and a few other cuts, the apple pie is to die for! I would highly recommend this recipe and it is easy to make!

Lauren Conrad’s Apple Pie Recipe

makes 1 pie

  • 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce (recipe below)
  • 1 recipe pie crust , divided into two pieces and refrigerated for at least 1 hour
  • egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 Tbsp water)
  • sanding sugar

Caramel sauce

  • ½ cup butter
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour to form a paste. Add water and sugar, and bring to a boil. Turn heat down and simmer for about 10 minutes. (You want the sugars to be melted in and not grainy anymore.) Note: you don’t want to turn this into a dark caramel sauce—just a good sugar/butter mixture that caramelizes once baked.

  1. Mix apples, sugars, flour, and cinnamon all together in a bowl.
  2. Roll out your pie dough circles and add one into a pie pan. Add the apple mixture into the pan and drizzle caramel sauce over apples. Cover with another crust and flute the edges. Cut vents in top, or use cut cookie cutters to cut out shapes in the tops of pies. (I do this before adding to the top of the pie.)
  3. Brush top of pie with egg wash, and sprinkle with sanding sugar. Bake pie in a 425-degree oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350, and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes, until top is golden and the juices are bubbling.

spring drinks…

Minted Hibiscus and Raspberry

What you need:

  • 8 cups water
  • 3 cups raspberries
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh mint, plus leaves for garnish
  • 6 hibiscus tea bags or 6 Tbs. hibiscus flowers
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups silver tequila
  • 1/2 cup Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • Ice as needed

In a large saucepan over high heat, bring the water to a boil. Add 2 cups of the raspberries, the chopped mint and the tea bags. Remove from the heat and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour.
Remove and discard the tea bags and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. Discard the solids. Add the sugar, tequila, Grand Marnier and lime juice and stir to combine. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

Pour into ice-filled glasses. Garnish with the remaining 1 cup raspberries and mint leaves and serve immediately. Serves 6 to 8.

 Pomegranate Mojito

  • 2 1/2 cups (20 fl. oz./625 ml) sparkling water, chilled
  • 1/2 cup (2 oz./60 g) pomegranate seeds

Add the mint leaves and sugar to a large pitcher. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, muddle the mint until it is lightly crushed and aromatic. Add the rum and lime juice and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the pomegranate juice and sparkling water and stir gently to combine. Pour into glasses filled with ice and serve immediately. Serves 8

Summer Rose Sangria

What you need:

  • 1 bottle (24 fl. oz./750 ml) Provençal rosé wine
  • 1 1/2 cups (10 fl. oz./310 ml) white cranberry juice
  • 1 pint (8 oz./250 g) raspberries
  • 1 pint (8 oz./250 g) blackberries, or 2 cups (12 oz./375 g) pitted cherries
  • 1 nectarine, pitted and thinly sliced
  • 1 white or yellow peach, pitted and thinly sliced
  • Ice cubes

In a pitcher, combine the rosé, cranberry juice, raspberries, blackberries, nectarine, and peach. Stir well. Refrigerate until the sangria is chilled and the flavors have blended, about 2 hours.

When ready to serve, fill 6 to 8 glasses with ice. Divide the sangria among the glasses and serve. Serves 6 to 8.
